us open 2011: ladies first

my first day at the 2011 open offered big matchups, fed/cilic, serena/vika--but the seats i had at the stadium wouldn't have allowed me to get the kind of shots i wanted. so i decided to stalk the outer courts. my priority was to see dolgopolov on court 17-- i built my day around it. but i managed to sneak in a few of sharapova-slayer (flavia pennetta), and gisela-the-slender (dulko) ...

i mostly love how in sync they are on the sidelines:

ladies' day: hitting the highline (summer 2011 edition)

there seems to be no middle ground for us ladies when we hit the high line together.
flash-freeze temps in january (though,
why was i not wearing a hat?)
on the last saturday in july, it was a slow boil all the way.

but the place is pretty in all kinds of weather, and it's especially fragrant on the southern end right now.

here's the first of 3 sets (i think):

hmm. i am not looking so fresh-faced, but i love contrasting this with the shot below:

how do the ladies stay so cool-looking?
