july 4th: the no- fireworks edition

macy's is only a few blocks away, and the riverside only a few beyond that. but i never considered actually going to see the fireworks "extravaganza." i was happy to celebrate with some white wine and ice cream sandwiches. but i did wonder how other "non-fireworkers" might spend the independence evening, so i zipped over to bryant park and times square to check the scene. it seemed very much like the usual: summer movie mondays in bryant park (cartoons, followed by one flew over the cuckoo's nest) a stop for smoky, charred kebob or dog (i probably should have waited to shower and shampoo my hair. blech), the usual times square hubbub. there was the intermittent crack-boom of fireworks, but they were mostly invisible to the eye.

at least he had the red, white and blue...

pretty city: the sun is up (part 2)

a little further downtown...i tried to catch more in the sunshine...i was a just a bit late, but kept snapping...

this little girl was so over getting her picture taken by her dad. and then she caught me...

oh the glare. the color version was unbearable.

but his color is fab.

hers is, too.

he could stop traffic with this amazing jacket...

the metlife tower in madison square park. a puddle shot! i can usually never find a clean one, so this felt lucky.

fuzzy rams jacket+ silver cowboy ankle boots + topshop bag= a real statement

pretty city: the sun is up (part 1)

new yorkers were out today, just like the sun, in full force.

i'm lucky that lunch with my friend allison got me out of my little murray hill cave. and i'm grateful to handsome writer friend for sending a sunlight alert, too.
that's good looking out...

i am still working to figure out how to take photos in all the beautiful brightness.

but here's new york today...

it's the pretty red-haired girl...

and the very cool brunette.

adorably bold with prints (click to see the detail her scarf)

this coat was so pretty on her.

the woman in the red coat is...

the lovely miss stella etoile and her friend, who are visiting from hamburg...

looking and longing. on sixth avenue.

ok--the last of the winter trees for this year. i promise.

Winter Trees

All the complicated details
of the attiring and
the disattiring are completed!
A liquid moon
moves gently among
the long branches.
Thus having prepared their buds
against a sure winter
the wise trees
stand sleeping in the cold.

pretty city: fashion week/here comes a regular

before fashion week fall 2010 left ny and bryant park, i decided to try to play "the sartorialist." i'm not sure why it didn't occur to me head over there earlier in the week--even though it isn't really my scene, i should have known it would be ripe for photo-ops. so many things to catch the eye--color, pattern, contrast. so many surprising and bold no-nos (and laughs), a few real beauties, and many, many people who want more than anything to be photographed and fawned over. (i prefer those who don't want it so badly, yet won't begrudge you the shot.) i found a little of all of that.

i don't have shots of any "famous" types, but russell simmons, tommy hilfiger, and i think hamish bowles, and other industry types walked right by me. meh. there were so many attendees coming from all directions, and the crowd of us could get easily diverted. i was much more interested in the regulars, anyway.

snuggly style
